Monthly Round-up. December 2011

Unbelievable! Another month has come to an end! And incredibly, another year too! But didn’t we end that year in style… by solving some present problems, meeting some cute berries, and having an amazing Christmas party! And also getting to meet Waui Design, Heartlocked, and Fruity Cuties too! And let’s not forget our monthly puzzle! Did you work out who the Mischief Mascot had all wrapped up?


That’s right! It was the Snowman Mascot! Well, if you’re going to have a Christmas themed puzzle, you might as well have a fittingly festive Christmas themed answer to go with it! Don’t you think? Disco Diary!

Dear Disco Mascot,

As 2011 comes to an end I’m sure many of your readers will be in a reflective mood. Looking back on the year that’s just passed and wondering about what could have been. Well, not me! Oh no! The only thing I’m thinking about as this year comes to a close is how much I’m going to be partying on December 31st! And, with a name like Disco Mascot, I’m pretty sure you’ll be thinking the exact same thing! Which brings me to this…


You see, much in the same way that puppies aren’t just for Christmas, I’m of the opinion that parties aren’t just for New Years! And what better way to keep track of all these parties than with a super cool diary featuring your own sweet self! Good idea, isn’t it? And one that I reckon could really take off with party animals everywhere! What do you think?

Wonderful Winter Petals

Well folks, it looks like Christmas is over for another year. No more frantically running around looking for last minute gifts, no more searching through cupboards trying to find that wrapping paper you were sure you had bought, and no more worrying about whether you’ve got enough food in for the big day itself! A Sneaky Thank You!

Dear Sneaky Mascot,

Well, I’m happy to report that, after following the advice you gave me, I managed to solve that little problem with ease! And so, as a way to say thank you for your sound advice, I decided I would give you a little something in return. And here it is…


Yip, that’s right, it’s a drawing of your own sneaky self penned by my own happy hands! Thank you! And, in case you’re wondering, the piece of advice I used to solve my problem was tip number 5: “The grandparent solution!” And I don’t mind telling you, it worked an absolute treat! KawaiiPunk Christmas Party 2011!

Great news, readers, it’s party time! And I’m not just talking about any old party! I’m talking about the annual KawaiiPunk Christmas Party! Yippee! But what did you do this year, I hear you all eagerly ask! Well, after the success of the 2009 hill walking party, not to mention the joy of the 2010 hill walking party, I decided that 2011 needed to be something really special. Can you guess what that was?


That’s right, I decided to treat my colleagues to another incredible hill walking party! And, oh boy, didn’t they just love it! “No!” yelled the Grumpy Mascot, in what I can only assume was disbelief that such a fun filled day out awaited him! “This is ridiculous!” declared the Junior Mascot, undoubtedly in amazement at my wondrous gift! And even the ever serious Serious Mascot was so overcome with emotion, he simply reached up to the heavens and screamed! Absolutely beautiful!

With only eight more shopping days left until Christmas I’m sure many of you will be running around like headless chickens trying to find that perfect present for that special someone! Kawaiification! Berry Bonanza!

Dear Sir/Madam,

With Christmas fast approaching I figured now would be a good time to share with you and your wonderful readers a festive piece of kawaiification. And so, after thinking long and hard about what I should kawaiify, I finally decided the perfect Christmas treat would be this…


Yes, that’s right, it’s some kawaiified holly berries! Granted, it is a somewhat predictable choice, but I reckon it’s a decidedly fitting one nonetheless! After all, isn’t Christmas a time for tradition and fun? I know it is at my house! Ahhh, Zazzle! Where would we be without you? Here at the KawaiiPunk blog we mascots are all big fans of Zazzle, and none more so than my own sweet self! In fact, even after three years of blogging about that wonderful place, it still never ceases to amaze me just how creative the designers that use it can be! And today I’d like to introduce you all to one such designer’s shop. It’s called Heartlocked, and it looks a little something like this…

Present Problem!

Dear Sneaky Mascot,

I was wondering if you could help me with a problem I’m having. You see… this Christmas I’d like nothing more than to get my hands on Doggie Doo - the game that is, not the… well, I’m sure you know what I mean! Anyway… while you undoubtedly think this is a perfectly reasonable present request for a five year old such as myself to make, unfortunately my parents think otherwise! They reckon Doggie Doo is nothing more than a crude novelty, rather than the genius toy it so clearly is, and are refusing to buy it for me this Christmas due to their aforementioned hideously misguided views! So I was wondering… do you think you could give me some sneaky tips to help me get the present I want? I’d be ever so thankful!

Oh boy, if I had a penny for every time I heard this old chestnut! But don’t worry, Wendy, because you’ve definitely come to the right mascot for help. Countermanding the wishes of do-gooding parents is a real speciality of mine. So… here’s my top 5 tips for getting the present you want this Christmas…

1. The gift voucher gamble! Asking for gift vouchers is usually is a sure fire way to ensure you get the present you want. Unfortunately, however, your parents sound like the kind of idiots who would buy you book tokens instead, so use this one with care!

2. The fake endorsement strategy! Parents these days are absolute suckers for celebrity endorsements, especially if that celebrity is a do-gooding parent themselves - Jamie Oliver, Myleene Klass, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. Just tell your parents you saw one of these clowns endorsing the present you want and watch them change their tune quick style! Result!

3. The table turner! If your parents are still insisting on buying you a Christmas present you don’t want, then it’s only fair you buy them something they don’t want in return! For instance… Doggie Doo! After all, since you’re only five years old, they’ll still be the one’s paying for it!

4. The shopping basket slip-in! A risky strategy, but one that can be highly effective! Next time you’re at the supermarket with your folks, try slipping the present you want into the shopping trolley when they’re not looking! Or better still, suggest your parents start buying their groceries online - this makes the adding of extra items even easier!

5. The grandparent solution! If all else fails then it’s time cut out the middlemen and seek a higher authority! Simply go over your parent’s heads and pay a visit to the Big Cheese, the Top Dog, the Head Honcho, a.k.a. Grandma! Because believe me, if this chick can’t help you get what you want, no one can :)

So there you go Wendy, my top 5 tips for getting you the present you want this Christmas. And if you follow these tips to the letter, I can absolutely guarantee you’ll be spending your Christmas day in the company of this little fella…

Problem solved! And Wendy, don’t hesitate to get in touch again if your doofus parents try to pull any of this kind of nonsense in the future. Although, now that you know the score, I reckon the chances of that happening are pretty slim indeed :)

Woo hoo! It’s December! My favourite time of the year, bar none! Well, being the Frost Mascot I’m hardly likely to be singing the praises of July now am I? Of course not! But it’s not just the lovely freezing cold December weather I’m excited about! Oh no! It’s also the festivities that go with it! Can you guess what I’m talking about? I’m pretty sure you can…it’s Christmas! Yippee!

As a mascot who writes for a kawaii blog I am often asked what I look for when finding cute shops to write about. And the answer… adorability! Well, I am the Adorable Mascot, after all!
