Monthly Round-up. July 2011

Unbelievable! Yet another month has come and gone in the life of the KawaiiPunk blog! And what incredible month it was! A month in which we saw a cute tennis ball, a gravely Gargoyle Mascot, and even a Puzzle Mascot puzzle cube! And let’s not forget the amazing crafters and designers we met along the way… Red & Main, Oborocharms, and Doodle Garage to name a few! And what about our musical monthly puzzle? Did you find the New Wave Mascot’s favourite eight bands?


Amazing! They were Talking Heads, Blondie, The B52s, Sparks, Devo, XTC, Pere Ubu, and The Vapors! I guess that guy really likes his music, huh? Anyway, that’s all your cute goodies for this month, folks, but be sure to come back next month when we’ll have plenty more tasty kawaii treats for you all to enjoy! And we’ll even have another puzzle too!

Fun For All at Kawaiiumis

There are a lot of different reasons for liking kawaii goodies, but chief among them has to be the way they make us all smile! The Amazing Puzzle Cube!

Dear Puzzle Mascot,

I’m not usually one for ripping off other people’s ideas, but after reading the email the Stereo Mascot received last month (Re. Personal Stereo Perfection!) I felt I couldn’t resist. And anyway, don’t they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Of course they do! So I’ve decided to create for you a modern twist on an old classic, much like your other reader did for the Stereo Mascot last month! And here it is…


Incredible, isn’t it? Yes, to celebrate your love of all things puzzling I’ve created for you your very own personalised Rubik’s cube! As you can see I have done this by replacing the standard coloured faces of the cube with pictures of your own sweet self! And I reckon it works a treat! Although obviously, it doesn’t literally work a treat, as it is only a mock up! But I’m sure you get my point! Enjoy!

Sounds Search! New Wave Mascot!

Great news folks, it’s puzzle time! And this month I’ve got an absolute corker for you to wrap your big old brains around! It’s a puzzle the likes of which you’ll never have seen before! I call it… the word search! Huh? What do you mean you’ve already heard of word searches? They’ve been around for ages, you say! Wow! Who’d of thought it? Oh well, too late to come up with another puzzle now! Let’s have a look at it anyway…

As you can see this particular word search has been made in honour of my friend and colleague the New Wave Mascot, and in it are hidden eight of the New Wave Mascot’s favourite bands! Gravelly Gargoyle!

Dear Gargoyle Mascot,

I noticed earlier this month that one of your readers sent in an artwork to honour the Daredevil Mascot. (Re. Drawing the Daredevil!) A good idea, especially as the aforementioned mascot is rarely given a chance to shine on this blog. Which brings me quite nicely, even if I do say so myself, to the point of my email - that being that you too rarely appear on this blog. And so…


Yes, you’ve guessed it, in a gesture to address this imbalance I have created an artwork especially for you. It’s a picture of yourself made from gravel - a very fitting medium for such a stone faced fellow as yourself! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this gravelly artwork, and I also hope to hear a lot more from you in the future. Although, I have to admit, I’m not entirely sure what a Gargoyle could write about for a kawaii blog! Is there such a thing as cute medieval architecture?

Kawaiification! New Balls Please!

Dear Sir/Madam,

You may remember in my last email to you (Re. Kawaiification! Spring Surprise!) I wished you and your wonderful readers a sun filled summer. And I sincerely meant it! Unfortunately, however, it seems that this wish has been wholly ignored! Bad news for sun fans, and bad news for kawaiifiers like myself too! Usually at this time of year I like to be out and about kawaiifying all and sundry in the open air, but not this year! No, this year I’ve been stuck indoors listening to the rain fall and watching TV. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t had a chance to bang on with my favourite hobby…


Yes, that’s right, it’s a kawaiified tennis ball! I got the idea for it while watching the recent Wimbledon tennis tournament. And, given the diabolical ‘summer’ weather we’ve been having lately, decided to model it on tennis legend John McEnroe! After all, anyone who thinks endless clouds and rain fall is fitting weather for this time of year, surely cannot be serious! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this latest work of kawaiification, and I also hope we eventually get some much needed sunshine! Fingers crossed!
