Can you believe it? Another month has come to an end! And what a spectacular month it was! A month in which we waved goodbye to analogue TV, waved hello to digital TV, and even witnessed some footballing fun! And we also got to meet some incredible crafters and designers along the way. Designers like Two Penny Lane, Ridge Rooms, amd Mymimi to name a few! And let’s not forget our amazing monthly puzzle? Did you work out who the Injunction Mascot was prevented from naming?
Incredible! It was the Clown Mascot! Good job the Puzzle Mascot lifted his injunction today so I could tell you the answer. At least, I think he lifted it! Hmmm… maybe I should call my lawyer just to be on the safe side! Anyway, that’s all for this month, but be sure to come back next month when we’ll have more kawaii than you can shake a stick at! Although quite why you’d want to do that is a mystery to me, if I’m being honest!
See you all in July. Your host with the most, Ed Mascot :)
As a mascot of cute who writes for a kawaii blog, I sometimes think I must be the luckiest person in the world! After all, what could be more fun than whiling away the hours searching for super cute treats to bring to you wonderful readers! In fact, sometimes I’m so amazed by my own good fortune, I find describing that feeling with words to be a near impossible task! Although, thankfully for you, when it comes to the aforementioned super cute treats, I always know precisely what to say! Take a look at these…
Pretty sweet, aren’t they? But I’m not just going to show them to you, I’m going to tell you where you can buy them too! It’s a little Zazzle shop I found called Kimchi Kawaii. At Kimchi Kawaii you can buy t-shirts, cards, buttons, gifts, and more, all of which are adorned with utterly adorable designs and illustrations guaranteed to put a kawaii song in your heart! And all of which are also just waiting for you to come along and snap them up right now! Well, it wouldn’t be right of me to keep all of my good fortune to myself now, would it?
Here at the KawaiiPunk blog we mascots love to hear from our wonderful readers, even though many of them seem to have a screw loose! About a year ago one such reader got in touch to talk about the World Cup (Re. Football Mad!) and to that reader I made promise! A promise that today I fully intend to honour! That’s right, there’s no “Clegging it” here at KawaiiPunk - promises made are promises kept! So, Vanessa Thompson, this one’s for you…
Yes, it’s my promised celebration of the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany! And what better way to celebrate this sporting occasion than to get the Punk, Doll, and Sweet Mascots to dress up in football strips and have their photo taken next to a wholly generic football pitch! Granted, they didn’t seem to think it was a particularly good idea for some unknown reason, but what’s the point of blogging if you’re not giving your readers what they want! Hope you enjoy it Vanessa!
You know what it’s like. A friend’s birthday is coming up and you’re looking for something special to buy them. Something a little bit different, something they wont already have, and something that isn’t a scented candle - you know what I’m talking about :) Well great news, readers, because today I’m bringing you the perfect one stop shop for all your gift buying needs! And here it is…
Beautiful, isn’t it? What you are looking at above are just some of the adorable artworks available from the amazingly talented Miss Koo at RedBubble. At the Miss Koo store you can pick up beautiful prints, cards, and t-shirts - any one of which would make the perfect birthday gift. Or Christmas gift. Or Valentines gift. Or even a gift for no reason whatsoever, which between you and me, has always been my favourite kind of gift :)
OK readers, time for another puzzle! Woohoo! And this month I’ve got an absolute corker for you! It’s got suspicion! It’s got intrigue! It’s got mystery! And, most of all, it’s got gossip! Can you guess what it is? That’s right folks, it’s an injunction puzzle! Heehee! But wait, I hear you gasp, just who would take out an injunction at KawaiiPunk? Well, the answer to that is quite simple - I did! Haha! And it’s all been done to bring you this incredible puzzle! Here, have a look…
Diabolical, isn’t it? You see, the injunction I have taken out prevents the Injunction Mascot from identifying one of his fellow colleagues! Hoho! But that doesn’t mean he has to stop thinking about them! Which, as I’m sure you can see, is precisely what he’s decided to do! So the question is… can you work out who the Injunction Mascot is being prevented from identifying? The answer, as ever, will be revealed in this month’s monthly round-up - which, conveniently for you lot, is also the date I intend to lift my injunction! I know, I am a genius, aren’t I?
As a regular reader of this blog I couldn’t help but notice the amount of posts this month on the subjects of change and new technology. (Re. Bye Bye Analogue!, Hello Digital! and Updating the Eighties!) And so, in an attempt to add to this debate, not to mention kill a couple of hours before the kids get back from school, I decided I’d chip in with my own two cents! And I think you might be just the mascot who’d like to hear what I have to say…
Yes, that’s right, I’m an old school fanatic! Just like yourself and your antiquated cassette playing personal stereo! And what’s more, I decided to show my affection for all things old school by designing for you a personal stereo featuring your own sensationally sonic self! I reckon it looks pretty good! Although unfortunately, since it’s only a mock-up, looking good is the only thing it’s ever going to be likely to do! Still, hope you enjoy it!
Keeping analogue alive, Mrs Hannah T Perkins
Absolutely amazing! Hannah, that is the coolest thing anyone has ever sent me! And don’t worry about it not being able to play cassettes, I’m the Stereo Mascot! I’ve got more cassette players than I’ve had hot dinners!
As regular readers will know there’s nothing I like more than a good sleep. I try to get a solid eight hours a night every night, another eight during the day, and top up what’s left with regular naps. On the rare occasions this leaves me with time to spare, I usually fill it with a healthy dose of yawning - great stuff! Occasionally, however, I do find myself to be wide awake, and it’s on these rare occasions that I find time to write on this blog. Which brings me to this…
Incredible, isn’t it? What you are looking at above are just some of the glorious creations available from the Mymimi Etsy shop. Mymimi is a crafter extraordinaire who has managed to combine the worlds of comfort and kawaii in perfect harmony! And, as a big fan of all things comfortable and kawaii, I have to say her collection of pillows and cushions are undoubtedly the best I have ever seen - sweet slumber heaven! So the next time you’re looking to get a few Zs in style, you’ll know where to go, wont you?
Earlier this month you may remember I sent you an artwork to mark the switching off of the analogue TV signal in the UK. (Re. Bye Bye Analogue!) On reflection, however, I began to wonder if this artwork was perhaps a bit to melancholy. After all, the switchover isn’t just about losing the analogue signal, it’s also about gaining the brand spanking new digital signal for all! And so, to address this imbalance, I created this…
Not bad, is it? I reckon it captures the dawning of the digital age in a subtle and moving way, much as my last artwork did with the passing of analogue, and I also particularly like my use of a full colour palette to illustrate the event! I had originally planned to celebrate this momentous occasion by creating a full HD 3D computer generated extravaganza but once again, on reflection, decided that this would require too much effort on my part! What do you think?
Your couch potato friend, Hector “Square Eyes” Haversham. Aged 63.
Incredible! Thanks Hector for another amazing piece of art! And once again I have to agree with you - creating a full HD 3D computer generated extravaganza would require a lot of effort! Not to mention a lot of money too :)
Computers, video games, comics, action figures, and box sets. As we all know the life of a nerd can be very busy indeed, and I should know - well, I am the Nerd Mascot after all :) But that doesn’t mean we nerds get to neglect our other duties. Since the rise of the internet we nerds have been considered the coolest people on the planet - FACT! And as the coolest people on the planet we really are obliged by social convention to look the part! But wait, I hear you fret, just how are we supposed to do that? Well fret no more my fellow nerds, because today I bring you the answer!
Yes, I’m talking about the incredibly stylish world of Eozen at RedBubble! Eozen is a graphic designer who creates t-shirts that cater for the nerd in all of us. Taking inspiration from the worlds of science fiction and comic books, Eozen’s designs are a cut above the usual nerd fare, and they’re also a whole lot cuter too! And, in true nerd fashion, they’re available to you right now with the single click of a mouse! Cool and convenient, wouldn’t you agree?
After reading Monday’s post about the digital TV switchover (Re. Bye Bye Analogue!) I started thinking about people’s reactions to change. It seems that many people dislike change, which I consider to be a very foolish attitude indeed! After all, without change wouldn’t we all just end up making the same mistakes over and over again? Well, I think mistakes should be corrected! And what’s more, I’m not afraid to step up to the plate and take responsibility for doing so…
Yip, you’ve guessed it, it’s time for another sensational mascot makeover! Or, in the case of your own gruesomely garish self, a mascot mistake-over! If you’ve ever looked in a mirror then I’m sure you’ll agree it’s high time you waved goodbye to your ludicrous 1980s style, and luckily for you I’m just the person to help you do this! As you can see I have chosen to help you do this by the simple act of toning down your ridiculously bright appearance and giving you a sensible, yet stylish, new pair of sunglasses! Looks pretty good, doesn’t it?
Your fashionable friend, Tamara Tallulah
Tamara, I couldn’t agree with you more! People who make the same mistakes over and over again are indeed foolish! Which reminds me, isn’t this the sixth time you’ve sent a “sensational” makeover plan to this blog?
In the worlds of art, design, fashion and illustration it is often debated which decade produced the best works. The 1960s gave us the colourful world of pop art and the hypnotic world of psychedelia, the 1970s dazzled us with glam and shocked us with punk, and the 1980s gave us absolutely nothing memorable or noteworthy whatsoever! But for me there has only ever been one winner in this ongoing debate - the 1950s! And thankfully, for all you fellow followers of fashion, I am by no means the only one that recognises this…
Yes, even after half a century, the artworks of the 1950s continue to influence designers and illustrators to this day. And at the Ridge Rooms Zazzle shop you can pick yourselves up a retro packed slice of this 50s influence on a multitude of goodies! Ridge Rooms sells t-shirts, mugs, aprons, iPad cases, cards, and much, much more besides - many of which feature glorious illustrations inspired by my favourite decade! And, as if that wasn’t reason enough for you to pay them a visit, they’re also pretty darn cute too!
As this month marks the switchover from analogue to digital TV in the UK I thought I’d have a go at creating some art to mark this momentous occasion. And who better to address this work of art to than your own sweet self - the TV Mascot! And so, that’s precisely what I have done! And here, my televisual friend, is the incredible result…
Not bad, is it? I reckon it captures the passing of the analogue age in a subtle and moving way, and I particularly like my use of a monochrome palette to illustrate the event! I had originally planned to mark the occasion by depicting you in the familiar guise of a Ceefax page but, on reflection, I decided that would require too much effort on my part! What do you think?
Your fellow TV fanatic, Hector “Square Eyes” Haversham. Aged 63.
Telly-tastic! Thanks Hector, it’s always nice to hear from a fellow fan of the goggle box! And you’re probably right - making up a Ceefax page would have been a bit time consuming! And besides, without an easy listening soundtrack to go with it, it just wouldn’t be the same :)
It is often said that bigger is better, but is this really true? Take mobile phones, for example. There was once a time when mobile phones were the size of small houses, but you don’t hear too many people bemoaning their demise. Well, the Eighties Mascot might moan a bit, but there’s no accounting for rose tinted nostalgia, is there :) The point I’m trying to make is that in many cases smaller can be better than bigger. And, when it comes to cute jewellery, it can also be utterly adorable too…
See what I mean? What you are looking at above are just some of the cleverly crafted creations from the Two Penny Lane Etsy shop - and what incredibly cute creations they are too! Two Penny Lane specialises in creating beautifully unique pieces of jewellery, many of which take their inspiration from the adorably petite world of doll house miniatures, and the results are simply stunning! Not to mention undeniable proof, if proof was ever needed, that smaller can indeed be better than bigger!
Ahhhh… the mists clear and the spirits enter once more. But what do they have in store for us this month? Great wealth? True Love? Unending happiness? All or none of the above? There’s only one way to find out…
