Monthly Round-up. May 2011

written by Ed Mascot

Well, it looks like another month has come to an end! And what a fun filled month it was! A month in which we saw the Punk Mascot get a punk album, the Snowman Mascot get some snow slushies, and one lucky reader get some top blogging advice from yours truly! And we also got to meet the fantastic Two Bad Bananas, Nonesuch Garden, Tivity Creations and many more! And what about our monthly puzzle? Did you work out which card the Miffed Mascot should’ve picked for our birthday?

Did you work out which card the Miffed Mascot should’ve picked for our birthday?
That’s right! It was the 2 today birthday card! Well, it was pretty obvious considering we’d just had a post entitled Happy 2nd Birthday! Maybe I should have a word with the Puzzle Mascot about making his puzzles a little bit harder! Anyway, that’s all for this month, but be sure to come back next month when we’ll have plenty more kawaii treats for you all to enjoy! And hopefully a better puzzle too!

See you all in June.
Your host with the most,
Ed Mascot :)

A New Wave Album for a New Wave Mascot!

Readers' Emails

Dear Punk Mascot,

I was very glad to hear you liked the album cover I sent you earlier this month. (Re. A Punk Album for a Punk Mascot!) In fact I was so glad, I decided I’d have a go at creating another. At first I thought about creating another punk album but, when I read on the KawaiiPunk website that June will see the arrival of the New Wave Mascot, I decided I’d go for something a bit different this time. Can you guess what it is?

It's a new wave album for a New Wave Mascot!
Yes, that’s right, it’s a New Wave album! Featuring, somewhat unsurprisingly I’ll admit, your brand new colleague the New Wave Mascot as its cover star! Looks good, doesn’t it? Anyway, I was hoping you could pass this on to the New Wave Mascot when he arrives at KawaiiPunk by way of a welcoming present. I think he’ll enjoy it! And who knows, if any other musical mascots join your ranks, maybe I’ll get a chance to make some more album covers!

Keeping on rocking,
Grotty McFilthy

Punk Mascot replies...

Hey Grotty, nice to hear from you again! Thanks for the album cover - I’m sure the New Wave Mascot will love it! And regarding other musical mascots, aren’t you forgetting the Metal and Disco Mascots?

Keep in touch,
Punk Mascot :)

Pretty sweet, isn’t it? The Concept Store is a RedBubble shop that sells t-shirts, kids clothes, and stickers - all of which feature cool characters and amazing illustrations, including robots! Don’t say I never treat you :)

Robot Mascot :)

Super Cool Snow Slushies!

Readers' Art

Dear Snowman Mascot,

You may remember last month I wrote to your colleague the Frost Mascot with an idea for keeping cool over the summer months. (Re. Keep Cool with Frosty Pops!) See, I told you I did! Anyway, in reply to my email the Frost Mascot suggested you may be feeling a bit left out from all the frosty fun and, now that I think about, he’s probably right. So, in attempt to make things right, not to mention give you a chance to shine in the summer, I thought I’d create these beauties…

It's some super cool Snow Slushies!
Yes, I’ve taken the Frost Mascot’s suggestion to heart, and created for you these sensational Snow Slushies! Granted, like my previous creations, these aren’t actually functioning slushies, but I’m sure you get the idea. And, if they were real, I’m sure you’d agree they’d be the most flavoursome slushies around! Anyway, I hope you enjoy these super cool creations, and I eagerly look forward to hearing a lot more from you once these horrid summer months are over!

Keep cool,
Ginger “Freckles” McRedhead. Aged 34.

Snowman Mascot replies...

Fantastic! Thanks Ginger! They look absolutely great, and they’ll definitely help me get through the summer months with a smile on my face! Which isn’t always easy when you’re a snowman :)

See you in the winter,
Snowman Mascot :)

Card Conundrum! Miffed Mascot!

written by Puzzle Mascot

Yippee! It’s that time of the month again, folks! It’s puzzle time! And this month I’ve got an absolute corker for you! A puzzle so diabolical you may never be able to solve it! Unless you’re a regular reader that is! Or if you have a quick look through our post archive! Or even a blind guess would give you a 1 in 3 chance! In fact, now that I think about it, this is probably the easiest puzzle ever! Oh well, it’s a bit late to change it now, so here it is…

Can you work out which card the Miffed Mascot should buy to mark our birthday?
Intriguing, isn’t it? As you’re probably already aware the KawaiiPunk blog recently celebrated a birthday, and it looks like the Miffed Mascot is planning to buy a card to mark this glorious occasion! But unfortunately he isn’t too sure how old the blog actually is! He’s pretty sure it’s either 1, 2, or 3 years old, but beyond that he’s a bit miffed - ha-ha! So the question is… can you work out which card the Miffed Mascot should buy to mark our birthday? The answer, as ever, will be revealed in this month’s monthly round-up!

Best birthday wishes,
Puzzle Mascot :)

Kawaiification! Perfect Present!

Readers' Emails

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a regular contributor to this blog I feel I couldn’t let your 2nd anniversary pass un-noted. And, as a regular kawaiifier I felt there was only ever one way for me to mark this glorious occasion! Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s time for another work of kawaiification! And, as this is effectively a birthday present for the KawaiiPunk Blog, I figured there could only be one subject fit for such a creation. So here it is…

It's a kawaiified birthday present!
Yes, that’s right, it’s a kawaiified birthday present! Happy Birthday! I do hope you and your fellow mascots enjoy this work of kawaiification, and I also hope that in some small way it makes your 2nd anniversary celebrations that little bit more special. Please be sure to pass on my congratulations to all the mascots at KawaiiPunk and wish them all the best for the future! Hip hip hooray!

Yours sincerely,
Mr. Justice Smithering Smythe (retired)

Ed Mascot replies...

Incredible! What a great present! Thanks your honour, that really is spectacular! And thanks also for your congratulations - my fellow mascots will definitely appreciate it! Except from the Grumpy Mascot that is, but I guess that’s to be expected!

Thank you once again,
Ed Mascot :)

Plush Perfection at Nonesuch Garden

written by Teddy Mascot

If there’s one toy above all others that has proven itself to have lasting appeal, it’s go to be the soft toy. Of course being a teddy bear you’d probably expect me to say that, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less true :) And so today I’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate the appeal of the soft toy by introducing you all to a true master of the craft. Her name is Megan Baehr, and her shop is called Nonesuch Garden…

Nonesuch Garden at Etsy
See, I told you she was a master, didn’t I? At the Nonesuch Garden Etsy shop you can pick up adorable plush toys for any occasion. And with characters including lions, bunnies, owls, rhinos, giraffes, meerkats and more, you can be sure you’re getting yourself something truly unique. In fact, if you look hard enough you may even find yourself a narwhal or plesiosaur in there! And you don’t get that from your average toy shop, do you?

Your soft toy hero,
Teddy Mascot :)

Blooming Blogger!

Ask a Mascot

Dear Ed Mascot,

I’m a 14 year old boy who’s about to start my own blog. I’ve been searching everywhere online for advice about how to do it properly - you know, to avoid the pitfalls that others have fallen into! Anyway, whilst conducting this search, a friend of mine suggested I should get in touch with you since you’ve been successfully running a blog for the last 2 years. Although, strangely, she did seem to be stifling hysterical laughter as she used the word “successfully”! And so, with my previous revelation very much in my mind, I hesitantly ask you… do you have any top tips for bloggers?

Yours sincerely,
Jamie K Crupmleton.

Ed Mascot replies...

Do I have any top tips for bloggers? Jamie, you’re only asking the number 1 blog host with the blog most! The Blog-Meister! Captain Blog! The one, the only… the Ed Mascot! So cast aside those blogging fears, young man, because here come my top 5 tips for running a successful blog…

1. Take it seriously! As a blogger you have a responsibility to your readers to always check your facts and statistics! It’s estimated that 73.45% of all bloggers forget to do this! And the remaining 35.62% just make them up and think no one will notice!

2. Avoid repetition! Always keep your blog fresh, and never repeat yourself! There’s nothing that’s going to put off readers more than some doofus of a blogger writing the same thing twice!

3. Avoid repetition! Always keep your blog fresh, and never repeat yourself! There’s nothing that’s going to put off readers more than some doofus of a blogger writing the same thing twice!

4. Spell-check everything! It may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many first time bloggers forget to do this! It only takes a second and, in this day and age, there really is no excuss for errorrs!

5. Never rant! Nobody likes reading a rant! Rants are pointless and stupid and serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever! But does anybody try to stop them? Oh no! They just sit back and do nothing while some moron with a keyboard goes off on one! I mean honestly, if I had a penny for every rant I’ve ever had to wade through on a blog, I’d be a very rich mascot indeed! But you don’t get pennies for wading through rants, do you? Oh no, that would be too much like a good idea! And ranters don’t like good ideas! They just like to assume they’re right and everyone else is wrong! I mean, seriously, why am I the only person in the world that sees this?

So there you go Jamie, my top 5 tips for running a successful blog! And as an added bonus I’ll give you one more tip for free: always make sure embedded videos clips are relevant to your posts…

See? That’s how we professionals do it! Good luck with the blog Jamie, and be sure to get in touch again if you ever need any more advice from the master. I’m always happy to help!

Your blogging buddy,
Ed Mascot :)

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Readers' Art

Dear Ed Mascot,

As this month marks the 2nd anniversary of the KawaiiPunk Blog, I though I would create a piece of art to commemorate this remarkable and highly surprising achievement. After all, I never thought anyone as nerdy looking as you could keep a blog going for so long! No offence! Anyway, I thought long and hard about what to create, and in the end decided on a paper diorama of a KawaiiPunk kawaii mascot party!

It's a KawaiiPunk kawaii mascot party!
As you can see I have placed you at the centre of the diorama, and have surrounded you with your fellow mascots - all of whom are expressing their disbelief at your 2 year blogging achievement. Again, no offence! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this artwork, and I also hope you continue blogging for many years to come. Although obviously, given my doubts about your blogging prowess, I won’t be holding my breath for this outcome!

No offence for a 3rd time,
Frank Potterton. Aged 41.

Ed Mascot replies...

Wow! Thanks Frank! What a great piece of art! And don’t worry about causing offence - I can’t believe this blog has been running for 2 years either! It seems like much longer!

Your ever modest blogmaster,
Ed Mascot :)

It’s not always easy putting a successful look together - choosing the right clothes, picking the perfect shoes, and hoping against hope for a good hair day. But thankfully there’s one area of preparation that just got a whole lot easier, thanks to a great new Etsy shop I just found out about. A Punk Album for a Punk Mascot!

Readers' Emails

Dear Punk Mascot,

Like you I remember when music was good. You know, when all it took to get a band together was and out of tune guitar and a chip on your shoulder. Ahhh… great days! Anyway, as well as missing out on good music, it seems kids these days are also missing out on the lost art of the album cover. And so, to show them what they’re missing, I thought I’d have a go at creating one myself…

It's a punk album for a Punk Mascot!
It’s a punk album cover featuring you as the cover star - well, it did seem quite fitting what with you being the Punk Mascot and all! What do you think? I mean, granted, I’ve never actually designed an album cover before, so it might not be the best cover ever created, but I do think it captures the essence of punk pretty well. And you’ve got to admit, you do look pretty cool on it!

Keeping punk alive,
Grotty McFilthy

Punk Mascot replies...

Hey Grotty, thanks for the album cover - I love it! And you’re right, I do look pretty cool on it! Although, to be honest, I pretty much look pretty cool all the time :)

Long live punk,
Punk Mascot :)

Cool Characters at the Clay Shop

written by Mischief Mascot

Here at the KawaiiPunk blog we mascots are all big fans of fun. Well, perhaps not the Grumpy Mascot, but there’s always got to be an exception, hasn’t there! Anyway, as an otherwise fun loving bunch there’s nothing we enjoy more than finding fun filled shops to share with you lucky readers, and today I’m going to share with you one such shop. It’s called the Clay Shop and it looks a little something like this…

The Clay Shop at Zazzle
Cool, isn’t it? The Clay Shop is a Zazzle store that features the amazing creations of Amy Vansgard, and with over 20 years of sculpting experience Amy’s clay creations are amongst the best I’ve ever seen. Her shop sells t-shirts, bags, mugs, mousepads, cards, caps, keyrings, and more. And each and every one of her glorious creations comes with a beautifully big slice of fun! Just what the doctor ordered!

Your friendly face of fun,
Mischief Mascot :)

Horoscopes for May 2011

written by Mystic Mascot

Ahhhh… the mists clear and the spirits join us once again. But just what will they bring us this month? Will it be fortune? Will it be glory? To be honest, I doubt it! But let’s have a look anyway…

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 20
Blue skies, sunshine, and an afternoon picnic. What could possibly go wrong? Avoid buying insect repellent if you want to know the answer to this! Think on!
Lucky E Number: E100

Taurus Apr 21 - May 21
Making a strong and lasting first impression can sometimes be a good idea. Doing so by shouting and screaming until everyone notices you however… not so much! Remember this!
Lucky E Number: E417

Gemini May 22 - Jun 22
A heinous act of betrayal by a loved one could ruin your life this month. But thanks to a super injunction, you won’t know anything about it!
Lucky E Number: E951

Cancer Jun 23 - Jul 23
Being gracious and dignified in defeat will be the key to getting through this month unscathed. And believe me, there’s gonna be a lot of defeat around! Sorry!
Lucky E Number: E310

Leo Jul 24 - Aug 23
There is no shame in asking for help when you need it. Asking for help when you don’t need it, however, is a different thing entirely. It’s called laziness!
Lucky E Number: E173

Virgo Aug 24 - Sep 23
At some point this month you will read a pointless horoscope prediction. The experience, despite its uncanny accuracy, will be something of a letdown!
Lucky E Number: E284

Libra Sep 24 - Oct 23
Avoiding chimney sweeps will be the key to a successful month for you. Shouldn’t be too hard to do, unless you’re living in a Dickens novel!
Lucky E Number: E495

Scorpio Oct 24 - Nov 22
Learning to laugh at yourself will make this month a whole lot easier. If you find this difficult, just pretend you’re someone else, and laugh at them instead!
Lucky E Number: E226

Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 21
Striving for perfection could spell your downfall this month. Try settling for second best or worse for a happier life! Problem solved!
Lucky E Number: E133

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 20
Singing in front of an audience is very different from singing in the shower. So remember to put some clothes on when you attend that audition!
Lucky E Number: E307

Aquarius Jan 21 - Feb 19
A light bulb, a shoelace, and a hat stand will all play an important role in your fortune this month. Although, for the life of me, I can’t work out how!
Lucky E Number: E473

Pisces Feb 20 - Mar 20
Planning ahead will only get you so far this month. Try making it up as you go along if you want an easier life! That’s what I do :)
Lucky E Number: E155

Ahhhh… the mists return and the spirits take their leave once more. And it doesn’t look like they had too much fortune and glory for us after all! Well, I did try to warn you! Until we meet again dear readers,
Mystic Mascot :)
