Monthly Round-up. March 2011

written by Ed Mascot

Unbelievable! Another month in the life of the KawaiiPunk Blog comes to an end! And what a moth it was! A month in which we met a fearsome wrestling zombie, a not so serious Serious Mascot, and even saw the Sleepy Mascot write his first post! And let’s not forget the amazing crafters and designers we met along the way, including Zupii, Oksancia, and Zefora Creations to name a few! And what about our monthly puzzle? Did you work out who the Wrestler Mascot defeated?

Did you work out who the Wrestler Mascot defeated?
Incredible! It was… the Imp Mascot? Good grief! What on earth was she thinking taking on the Wrestler Mascot? I mean, I could understand if she’d challenged him to a game of table tennis, but wrestling? That’s just crazy! Still, rather her than me I suppose! Anyway folks, that’s all for this month, but be sure to come back next month for more kawaii treats! And another puzzle!

See you all in April.
Your host with the most,
Ed Mascot :)

Kawaii’s Most Wanted!

Readers' Art

Dear Ed Mascot,

I recently read that April 1st will see the arrival of the newest KawaiiPunk kawaii mascot - the intriguingly named Outlaw Mascot! Further investigation revealed she acquired this unusual moniker due to her excessive cuteness! Something that I would have considered a virtue in the world of kawaii, but anyway… The point is her name got me thinking. And that thinking led me to this…

An Ed Mascot wanted poster!
That’s right, it’s a wanted poster for you! I figured if the Outlaw Mascot was wanted for being excessively cute, then surely you would be wanted for being excessively nerdy looking! Because let’s face it, even the Nerd Mascot isn’t as weird looking as you, and he’s the Nerd Mascot! Anyway, I hope you like the poster, and perhaps you can show it to the Outlaw Mascot when she arrives to make her feel more at home.

Yours helpfully,
Big John Jones “The Sheriff” Jacobson. Aged 51.

Ed Mascot replies...

Absolutely brilliant! And what a great idea to welcome the Outlaw Mascot! Thanks Big John Jones “The Sheriff” Jacobson! Let’s just hope that you’re never wanted for anything - as I doubt your name would fit on the poster!

Keep those artworks coming,
Ed Mascot :)

Ace Accessories from Zefora Creations

written by Doll Mascot

As I’m sure many of you will already know (well, those of you who have paid attention to my previous posts, that is!) the key to a successful look can often lie in the accessories that go with it! And, once again, I’m all set to give you the heads up on an accessory shop to help you get that success. The shop is called Zefora Creations, and their accessories look something like this…

Zefora Creations at Etsy
Neat, aren’t they? Zefora Creations is an Etsy shop that specializes in making kawaii accessories to brighten up any outfit or look. And, with over 200 items for sale at the time of writing, this sensational store can definitely be described as a shop with something for everyone - necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, it’s even got hair accessories too! Don’t say I never treat you :)

Always accessorizing,
Doll Mascot :)

Chuck t-shirts at CafePress!

written by Money Mascot

A few weeks ago you may remember my colleague the TV Mascot whining like a baby while telling you about some LOST designs our resident graphic designer had created! (Re. Cute iPad Cases for LOST Fans!) And not for the first time either! (Re. Cute LOST t-shirts at CafePress) Well today I’m going to tell you about some more designs he’s made and this time, you’ll undoubtedly be pleased to hear, there won’t be a single whine in sight! Just the cold browbeating efficiency of the good old fashioned hard sell! So listen up! You know that TV show Chuck? You do, then take a look at this…

Visit the Beer More for Chuck t-shirts at CafePress!
Yep, you’ve guessed it, it’s some Chuck t-shirts! You see, it seems that CafePress have teamed up with Warner Bros. to allow fans to create their own t-shirts and merchandise for their favourite TV shows. Which sounds like a pretty good money spinner, if you ask me! And I should know! Anyway, it turns out our resident graphic designer reckoned he’d have a go at making some Chuck t-shirts and goodies. And so he did! The result… the Beer More! It’s like the Buy More, but with more beer! And it’s a CafePress shop, not a fictional computing chain store from an American hit comedy/action/drama TV spy show that has some of the best cameo and guest appearances in the history of television! But you probably worked that much out for yourselves already! Anyway, now it’s your turn - GO BUY SOME!

Masked Mayhem! Wrestler Mascot!

written by Puzzle Mascot

OK readers, you’ve waited long enough! It’s time for another puzzle! Hurrah! And this month’s puzzle is a real battler! In more ways than one! You see, here at KawaiiPunk we were recently joined by the Wrestler Mascot who, after reading a suggestion from one of our readers (Re. The Fearsome Zombor!) decided he was going to wrestle one of his fellow mascots! Here, have a look…

Can you work out who the opponent is before the Wrestler Mascot unmasks them?
Incredible… Not least because someone actually took him up on his offer! Were they mad? We all knew the Wrestler Mascot would win! And he did! Well, he is the Wrestler Mascot after all! And, as the winner, he gets to unmask his defeated opponent! The question is… can you work out who the opponent is before the Wrestler Mascot unmasks them? The answer, as ever, will be revealed in this month’s monthly round-up!

Happy unmasking,
Puzzle Mascot :)

Tiki Treats at Maoli Designs!

written by Tiki Mascot

Here at the KawaiiPunk blog we mascots take a great pride in our collective knowledge and experience. And, in doing so, we aim to bring you a broad selection of kawaii gifts, goodies, and gadgets. But of course, it can sometimes seem that certain mascots around here are more suited to the task than others. I mean, we can all see how the Cute, Sweet, and Adorable Mascots can contribute to a kawaii blog, but what about me, the Tiki Mascot? Well, have a look at this…

Maoli Designs at Zazzle
Yip, just because I’ve got a somewhat niche name, that doesn’t mean I can’t contribute to this blog. What you are looking at are just some of the groovy goodies available at the marvellous Maoli Designs Zazzle shop. Maoli Designs take their inspiration from Asian and Pacific Island culture - which is something I can definitely relate too, and highly recommend! And, as I’m sure you’ll agree, their gifts, goodies, and gadgets are every bit as kawaii as anything the Cute, Sweet, and Adorable Mascots could bring you! Have fun!

Your Polynesian perfectionist,
Tiki Mascot :)

So Long Serious Mascot!

Readers' Emails

Dear Serious Mascot,

With the month of March now well and truly upon us, and the first hints of spring in the air, I couldn’t help but think that now would be a perfect time for another mascot makeover! And as we finally wave goodbye to the sourpussed face of winter, what mascot could be a more fitting choice than yourself! No offence!

Serious Mascot Makeover!
As you can see I have determined that the best way to improve your look, if it could ever have been called that in the first place, is to make you look a bit more approachable. And what’s the best way to do that? With a hat, a smile, and a gloriously carefree scarf! And what’s the result? Another perfect mascot makeover!

Always happy to help,
Tamara Tallulah

Serious Mascot replies...

Thanks Tamara, it’s always a pleasure to hear from a valued reader such as yourself! Although, somewhat ironically, I’m never entirely sure whether you’re being serious or not! I mean… a gloriously carefree scarf?

Yours seriously,
Serious Mascot :)

Shirking Sports!

Ask a Mascot

Dear Sleepy Mascot,

Please help! I’m a 13 year old girl with a problem! And the name of that problem… sports! I cannot stand them! Never have! Never will! But does that mean anything to my teachers? You bet your bottom dollar it doesn’t! Oh no, according to them “sports and physical education are an essential part of every child’s upbringing” and “a healthy body means a healthy mind” and yadda, yadda, yadda, etc. Absolute nonsense, as I’m sure you’ll agree! Anyway… I’ve noticed that in the entire history of this blog, which is very nearly a whole two years, you have never once contributed a single word to a single post - a veritable master class in shirking achievement of which I stand in respectful awe! And an achievement which I would dearly love to apply to my own dislike of sports. So I ask you… can you help me get out of doing school sports?

Yours sincerely,
Annabelle Wright

Sleepy Mascot replies...

OK Annabelle, I’ll help. But we’ll have to keep this on the QT. If the Ed Mascot finds out I’m awake and writing he’ll try to make me do some proper work. And I’m not having that! So let’s make this quick! Here’s my top 5 tips for shirking school sports…

1. Sick notes! A tried and tested method as old as the Senior Mascot himself! Fake a note excusing yourself from sports by citing a commonly contagious illness! But make it believable - bubonic plague ain’t gonna wash!

2. Fake an injury! Bandages can be purchases in any high street chemists and can be wrapped around wrists, ankles, and necks in a plethora of ways. Practice limping and grimacing if you really want to sell this one!

3. Cause an injury! Thanks to the highly litigious times we live in, teachers the world over are now terrified of lawsuits and liability claims! Try “accidentally” barging into your fellow students on the sports field! Trust me, you’ll soon be excused!

4. Shoe sabotage! You can’t be expected to participate in sports if the soles of your shoes fall off. Simply remove the soles at leisure at an earlier date and reassemble the shoes using paper glue! Believe me, they won’t last long!

5. Fake vomit! Gross but highly effective! Water down some lentil soup and add a dash of vinegar! Store in a household flask and apply to corridor floor and clothing in the moments before your teacher arrives! Hey presto, another game of hockey avoided! Although be sure to pack some extra clothes if you’re thinking of trying this one!

So there you go Annabelle, my top 5 tips for shirking school sports. And now that you’ve mastered the art of shirking, why not the dress the part too…

Ahhh! Forever Lazy! The greatest invention since man discovered beds, or pillows, or really comfy seats, or those big slipper things that heat your feet, or all of the above! Or something!

Good luck Annabelle,
Sleepy Mascot :)

Cute Crafts from Strawberry Paisly

written by Junior Mascot

Here at the KawaiiPunk blog we mascots always like to hear from our readers. Especially when they’re telling us about their crafty kawaii creations :) And recently, I’m pleased to report, we heard from one such reader who introduced us all to her fantastically fun Etsy shop. The reader was called Yael, her shop is called Strawberry Paisly, and her crafty kawaii creations look a little something like this…

Strawberry Paisly at Etsy
Cool, aren’t they? Yael is a master crafter with a love of all things Japanese and cute. In her Strawberry Paisly shop you’ll find beautifully handmade bags, plushies, necklaces, keychains, phone charms and more - all adorned with gloriously cute characters inspired by everything from Studio Ghibli to Alice In Wonderland! And just the ticket if you’re looking for some heavenly handicrafts to brighten up your day! Enjoy!

Always keeping crafting cute,
Junior Mascot :)

The Fearsome Zombor!

Readers' Art

Dear Zombie Mascot,

I noticed earlier this month that you, and your esteemed mascot colleagues, were joined by a rather sporting new mew member - the Wrestler Mascot! Well, as a huge fan of wrestling, I have to say I was overjoyed by this fantastic news! But then I started thinking… who is the Wrestler Mascot going to wrestle with now he’s joined KawaiiPunk? After all, I can hardly see him getting in the ring with the Nerd Mascot? And so I created this…

It's the fearsome Zombor!
It’s a drawing of you as a fearsome wrestler, as I think you would make a very fitting opponent for the Wrestler Mascot. I know, it is a work of genius, isn’t it? I thought you could call yourself Zombor, as it sounds quite fearsome, and have given you a suitably fearsome mask to match the name! What do you think? Reckon you could take on the Wrestler Mascot for me?

Yours enthusiastically,
Dorothy Winters. Aged 93.

Zombie Mascot replies...

Wow! Thanks Dorothy! I absolutely love the picture! Although I have to say wrestling isn’t really my thing! Us zombies aren’t exactly renowned for our robust limb retention skills you know :)

Thanks all the same,
Zombie Mascot :)

Whoopee! It’s Zupii!

written by Skull Mascot

Being a skeleton isn’t always easy. Especially when you write for a kawaii blog! After all, it’s not as if big piles of bones and cuteness necessarily go hand in hand! But that certainly doesn’t mean they never have to! And today I’m going to introduce you all to a shop that proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt. So get ready for a treat, readers, because here comes Zupii…

Zupii at Zazzle
Ta da! Zupii is a Zazzle store that sells t-shirts, buttons, stationery, magnets and more, all adorned with astoundingly cute and creepy creatures! It’s got monsters! It’s got robots! And, I’m pleased to report, it’s even got skeletons too! In fact, it’s got so many skeletons, skulls, and bones, that you could say it’s the world’s first kawaii ossuary! And I bet you never thought you’d find one of those when you woke up this morning!

Your bona fide bone fan,
Skull Mascot :)

Cute iPad Cases for LOST Fans!

written by TV Mascot

Just over a year ago you may remember I posted a feature about some LOST t-shirt designs that had been created by our resident graphic designer. (Re. Cute LOST t-shirts at CafePress) You may also remember I wasn’t particularly happy about having to do so! After all, even though I am the TV Mascot, it did seem a bit presumptuous of the guy behind KawaiiPunk to think I would be happy to promote his non-KawaiiPunk designs, just because they were TV related! Well, one year later, and it looks like nothing has changed…

Cute iPad cases for LOST fans at CafePress!
Yep! Here we go again! It seems that the guy behind the KawaiiPunk Blog has created some new LOST designs and, once again, expects yours truly to promote them! I mean honestly, talk about being taken for granted! Anyway, if you’re a LOST fan who wants to get your hands on some cute iPad or iPhone cases then head on over to the Lost Cabin Crew CafePress shop and knock yourself out! And if you could knock me out on the way, then I think we’d both be happy!

Please stop confusing me with the Money Mascot,
TV Mascot :)

Dreamy Drawings from Littlearty

written by Sweet Mascot

In today’s world it is often said that the simplest pleasures in life are overlooked. Take drawing for example. As children it seemed our days were always filled with paper, pens, crayons, paints and, as a result, joy! But as adults… well, that’s another story! Thankfully, however, not all adults have forgotten the joy that drawings can bring! Don’t believe me? Then take a look at this…

Littlearty at RedBubble
Pretty sweet, isn’t it? What you are looking at are just some of the glorious artworks created by Littlearty at RedBubble. Littlearty is a designer and illustrator whose love of drawing shines brightly in each and every one of her whimsical creations. And, thankfully for you, me, and everyone else reading this, each and every one of those whimsical creations is available to buy on cards, prints, canvases, and t-shirts. So why not head on over and rediscover the joys of simple pleasures for yourselves?

Keeping drawings dreamy,
Sweet Mascot :)
