Monthly Round-up. December 2010

And so December comes to an end! And what an action packed month it was, not to mention a snow packed one too! A month in which we got to see some freak filled wrapping paper, an oddball Christmas cracker, and even a grumpy Christmas present. And along the way we got to see the incredible works of Anapaulaoli, Pretty Robot, and Azzamckazza to name a few. And let’s not forget our monthly puzzle! Did you work out which mascot was giving Snowman his Christmas present?


Amazing! It was the TV Mascot! I wonder what he got him? Maybe it was a TV? Anyway… as well as being the end of another month, this also marks the end of another year! But don’t worry, we’ll all be back again in 2011 to bring you even more kawaii treats for your ever hungry kawaii bellies. So until then… have a happy new year everybody!

New Year Nightmare!

Dear Sneaky Mascot,

I need your help. I’m a ten year old girl with a big problem! Let me explain… My family has a tradition of making New Year Resolutions. Usually this isn’t a problem and I just make a half hearted promise to keep my room tidy - I’m sure you know the score :) But this year, for reasons best known to themselves, my parents have decided that the whole family (my mum, my dad, my brother, and myself) should all individually give something up as our New Year Resolutions. And to make matters worse, they have all chosen to give up things they really enjoy, even my brother!

My mum is giving up chocolate, my dad is giving up watching football, and my big brother (or Judas as I fully intend to refer to him from now on!) is giving up playing video games! Which, as I’m sure you can see, puts the pressure on me - BIG TIME! My problem is I don’t want to give anything up! I’m perfectly happy with my life, and don’t see how giving something up for the sake of some hokey tradition is going to make me a better person in any way whatsoever! So… I was hoping you could put that sneaky brain of yours into action and find something for me to give up that will sound good to my parents, but that I will not miss at all!

Amanda, I like the way you think! And you’ve definitely come to the right mascot for advice on all things sneaky! What you are looking for is often referred to as a “hollow promise” and it has been in use in political circles for centuries :) And, luckily for you, it also happens to be something I’m more than familiar with myself! So here are my top 5 hollow promise New Year Resolutions…

1. Give up lying! An absolute corker of a hollow promise! Not only does it sound like a heartfelt attempt at self improvement, but it also means your parents will have to believe everything you say from now on! Which could prove very useful, especially if you lie :)

2. Give up fighting with your brother! Parents love it when their kids say stuff like this, and will undoubtedly go for this resolution wholeheartedly! It also means your brother will be more likely to get blamed for any fights that do arise in the future! Result!

3. Give up being selfish! A lofty sounding resolution if ever there was one! Not too mention an utterly meaningless one too! After all, you don’t have to be overtly selfish to get your own way! Especially when parents are involved :)

4. Give up your plans for world domination! Nobody likes living with a megalomaniac, and your parents will be no exception! Just be sure to say it with a maniacal grin on your face to make sure they believe there was a chance of this actually happening in the first place!

5. Give up making promises you can’t keep! The ultimate New Year Resolution loophole! Makes you sound like you’re trying to better yourself, with the added bonus of rendering all future attempts at soliciting resolutions from you null and void! Perfect!

So there you go Amanda, my top 5 hollow promise New Year Resolutions for you to enjoy a stress free 2011! And to get you in the party mood for the upcoming Chinese year of the rabbit, here’s a bit of Chas n Dave…

Great stuff! Although it has left me with an unfathomable urge to watch Donnie Darko for some reason! Hmmm…

Shopping Solutions at Midnight Creations

Well readers, it looks like Christmas is over for another year! No more carols, no more crackers, and no more cards. Still, it isn’t all bad, at least I won’t have to eat any more sprouts or cold turkey sandwiches for another 12 months - phew! And of course, with Christmas behind us, it does mean the January sales are just around the corner! Hmmm… if only I had something sweet to put my new year shopping bargains in. Perhaps a beautiful new bag would help?

Have a Kawaii Christmas!

Yipee! It’s Christmas! The one day in the whole year when I’m guaranteed to get a post on this blog! Hurrah! And this year, as well as taking the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas, I’ve also brought along a little festive treat for you all to enjoy! You may remember them from the Stereo Mascot’s post way back in March. Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s the cutest band in the world, it’s U900! And this time they’re singing Jingle Bells…

What with being a ghost and all you may be slightly surprised to see me contributing to this blog when we’re so close to Christmas. I mean, surely I’d be more suited to Halloween you’re probably thinking. And you’d be right! But, if Charles Dickens has taught us anything, it’s that the festive season is as much a time for ghosts as it is for turkeys! And, as we don’t have a turkey mascot here at KawaiiPunk, I thought I might as well step up to the plate and add a touch of gruesome goodness to the Christmas spirit! Wishing You a Grumpy Christmas!

Dear Grumpy Mascot,

What with Chrismas being just around the corner, no to mention your own recent mascot festivities (Re. KawaiiPunk Christmas Party 2010!) I reckon you’ve had just about as much of the festive season as you can take. And to be honest, so have I! Since October (yes, that’s right - TWO months ago!) all my kids have been banging on about is what I’m going to be getting them for Christmas! The worst part is they’re both in their 30s! One of them’s even got kids of her own! And my husband’s been no better! Reckons he wants a power drill, or some such nonsense! Well, I proudly say Bah! Humbug! And I’m sure you do too! So this Christmas everyone in my family is getting one of these as a present…


Yep, it’s some stones with grumpy faces drawn on them! What’s more I’m not even going to bother wrapping them! I’m just going to throw them under the Christmas tree and let all those present hungry parasites sort them out for themselves! That way, I reckon I might actually get some peace and quiet this time next year when this whole circus rolls into town again! Anyway, I thought I’d share these with you - just in case you too were looking for grumpy Christmas presents this year. After all, they are extremely cheap to make!

Kawaii Galore at BigKeyLee Store!

As a writer for a kawaii blog I sometimes have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. After all, finding kawaii goodies to write about on a day to day basis can seem too good to be true sometimes! But when I found the shop I’m going to tell you about today, I not only had to pinch myself, I had to get the Cute, Sweet, and Doll Mascots to pinch me too! The shop is called BigKeyLee Store, and it looks a little something like this…


What you are looking at is just a tiny (and I mean tiny) fraction of the kawaii treats that await you at the BigKeeLee Store! I emphasise the word tiny because this store is quite possibly the biggest, and most kawaii filled store we have ever featured on this blog! KawaiiPunk Christmas Party 2010!

Well readers, it’s that time of the year again. Yes, it’s time for the annual KawaiiPunk Christmas Party! A time for us mascots to get together and let our hair down. Well, those of that have hair that is! And, after the success of last years’ festive hill walking extravaganza, I decided this year I’d treat my fellow mascots to… another festive hill walking extravaganza! And, boy oh boy, were my colleagues excited about that…


For no sooner had I announced the plans for our festive shindig when my fellow mascots began expressing their resounding thanks and joy! “Not again!” cried the Grumpy Mascot, incredulous at my thoughtfulness and generosity! “Seriously?” yelled the Junior Mascot, unable to believe such a wondrous day awaited him! And, I’m sure she won’t mind me telling you this, I even saw the Cute Mascot shed a few tears when she heard the wonderful news! I guess the excitement was just too much for her! Truly beautiful!

Believe it or not there are still some people out there who think of robots as emotionless, soulless, mindless machines. Perhaps they’re getting us mixed up with politicians :) Anyway, as a highly advanced piece of technological wonder and intelligence, I often find myself having to defend my kind against these outdated and ridiculous charges. But, thanks to an incredibly cool shop I recently found at Zazzle, that task has just got a whole lot easier…

Freaky Christmas Cracker!

Dear Freak Mascot,

I’m not usually one to get carried away with the Christmas spirit, but after reading your recent joyful responses to your newly received festive gifts (Re. Freaky Christmas Card! and Freaky Wrapping Paper!) I couldn’t help but feel the pull of Santa’s reindeer on the previously cold dead reins that were my heartstrings! So much so that I decided I too should furnish you with a gift. And here it is…


Yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s a Christmas cracker with your face on it! Unfortunately however, in my haste to create this wondrous piece, I forgot to put anything inside it! I realise this is quite a major flaw as far as cracker designs go but, what with you being a total oddball freak and all, I didn’t think you’d mind too much. Well… it is the thought that counts after all!

Toy Time Treats from Anapaulaoli!

At this festive time of year a lot of people often ask me what my favourite thing about Christmas is. Is it the carol singers spreading joy on cold winter nights? Is it the eager anticipation with which we await our turkey and sprouts? Or is it the annual resurgence of 1970s glam rock acts belting out their Christmas novelty tracks on every single radio station known to man? Well, for me there has only ever been one winner in the “best thing about Christmas” category, and that’s toys, toys, toys…

Dear Freak Mascot,

I noticed last month that one of your readers, Annabelle Hutchinson I believe her name was, sent you a Christmas card with your face on it (Re. Freaky Christmas Card!) because she feared you may be overlooked at this time of year for being an oddball! Well, I thought this was a great idea! And so, taking inspiration from this act of festive kindness, I decided I too would send you something this Christmas…


It’s some festively fun Freak Mascot Christmas wrapping paper! So now, as well as sending yourself a freaky card this Christmas, you can also send yourself a freakishly freakily wrapped present too! Keep it Secret! The Secret’s Out!

Here at the KawaiiPunk Blog we often like to tell you about cute handmade jewellery. And why not? I mean, we all like cute handmade jewellery, don’t we? But the one thing we often overlook is to tell you how you can make your own! Well, today that changes! Because today I’m going to tell you about a shop that’s got the perfect gifts for wannabe cute jewellery makers everywhere! And here it is…


The shop is called Keep it Secret and, as well as selling some of the cutest stationery and snacks around, it also features a kawaii-tastic hobbies and crafts section. And it’s in that section you’ll find their super cute collection of Fuwa Fuwa Mousse Clay goodies, complete with moulds, clay, and everything you’ll need to start making your very own kawaii jewellery!
