Amazing! It was the Grumpy Mascot! Who’d of thought he’d of been the one to record T.J. Hooker for the Mystic Mascot? Anyway folks… that’s all for now, but be sure to come back next month for more cute treats, kawaii crafts, and lots and lots of Christmas craziness!
See you all in December. Your host with the most, Ed Mascot :)
Combining cute and cool to create the perfect kawaii has always been a delicate balancing act - a bit like making a cake. Add too much of a single ingredient and the whole recipe can go disastrously wrong. Just look at the Freak Mascot - one weird looking cake, if ever I saw one :) Anyway, at the risk of stretching this metaphor to breaking point and beyond, I’d to introduce you all to a true culinary kawaii master…
PandaPad manage to combine cute and cool in perfect measures to create some of the sweetest kawaii characters and designs you’re ever likely to see. Its collection of t-shirts, cards, mugs, mousepads and more are among the finest to grace the entire Zazzle emporium. And believe me, that’s one mighty big emporium!
With Christmas just around the corner, and you being a Snowman and all, I thought you might be able to help me with a festive problem I’m having. You see, since last Christmas my parents have gotten divorced. Don’t worry, this isn’t going to turn into a sob story - I’m 42 years old and very happy for them! Unfortunately however, for my bank balance if not my parents, they have also both remarried. This means I’ve suddenly inherited a whole new family which includes, but is not limited to, seven step-brothers and sisters (plus spouses), twelve nephews and nieces (three of whom also have spouses), and six grand-nephews and nieces! It’s a Christmas shopping nightmare and, to be frank, one I simply cannot afford! Please help me find a cheap solution to this potentially costly Christmas conundrum!
Yours sincerely, Ebenezer Rodgers.
P.S. I’ve also got a wife and kid of my own and, chances are, they’ll probably be expecting something too!
Ho ho holy moly! That is quite the pickle you’re in Ebenezer, but one that I’m more than happy to help you out of. You see, you don’t have to spend a fortune at this time of year to have a merry Christmas. In fact, many presents and gifts can be found and/or made that won’t cost you a penny. Here’s my top 5 cheap Christmas gifts…
1. Sock puppets! An old sock with a couple of buttons stitched on for eyes makes an ideal gift for a child. And is every bit as exciting as a PS3!
2. Homemade perfume! Bung a bunch of flower petals in an old bottle, add water, and shake! Ooo la la, is that Paris I smell? The ladies will love it!
3. Hanky hats! Tying four knots in the corners of an old handkerchief will make a stylish hat! Best remember to wash the handkerchief first though!
4. Pebble paperweights! The humble pebble, or stone if you don’t have access to a beach, makes an ideal paperweight! Practical, and pretty!
5. Toilet paper scarves! A single toilet roll can be used to make scarves for the whole family, and is a great accessory to a hanky hat!
There you go Ebenezer, one cheap Christmas signed, sealed and delivered. If however you choose to ignore the advice of this Snowman, be sure and listen to the words of my abominable friend before you hit the shops…
Wise words indeed! Eat your heart out Money Mascot! Merry Christmas everybody!
A lot of people often ask me what the definition of cute is. Well, with a name like the Cute Mascot, I am seen as something of an expert :) Unfortunately however, it’s not always an easy question to answer. Well, not an easy question to answer with words alone! Recently I’ve taken to answering this eternal conundrum with the help of a cute crafter from Etsy. So the next time someone asks you what the definition of cute is, show them these…
These are the incredibly cute and crafty creations of Magic Bean Buyer. Magic Bean Buyer is an Etsy shop that specialises in creating stunningly cute clay characters, or Plinis, that are so adorable they can only be seen as the crafting embodiment of cuteness! And, as well as being the answer to the question of cute, these beautifully hand sculpted and painted lovelies also answer another difficult question - what to buy me for Christmas! What ? You can’t blame a girl for trying :)
Always bringing you the cutest crafts, Cute Mascot :)
Yes people, it’s that time of the month again! It’s puzzle time - hurrah! And this month everyone’s favourite kawaii psychic, the Mystic Mascot, has got herself into a spot of bother. You see, while attending a crystal ball convention, the Mystic Mascot has realised she’s forgotten to set the video to record her favourite 80s TV cop show - T.J. Hooker. What a disaster! But wait, perhaps all is not lost. Using her crystal ball, Mystic plans to contact one of her colleagues and get them to set the video for her.
But wait, again! It looks like the Mystic Mascot is having trouble getting a signal from the astral realm. She knows which Mascot she wants to contact but, unfortunately, she can’t see them clearly enough to get the message through! Perhaps if we all tried to help her, by working out who she’s trying to psychically connect with, then the connection could be made. So the question is - which KawaiiPunk Mascot is Mystic trying to contact? The answer will be revealed in this month’s monthly round-up!
Ho ho ho! Santa Claus, reindeers, mistletoe, and all that other stuff! Yes folks, it’s that time of year again - it’s Christmas! Well, not quite. But it is the time of year we should be sending out our Christmas cards and gifts if we want to avoid the annual post office queue nightmare! And thankfully we can help…
Yes, thanks to myself and my esteemed colleague the Frost Mascot, you can now purchase some truly kawaii and Christmassy cards and gifts at the KawaiiPunk Zazzle and CafePress shops - hurrah! And, if you like Christmas as much as I do, you can even get some suitably festive t-shirts over at our RedBubble store - double hurrah! Merry Christmas everybody!
They say that falling in love is the sweetest thing that can ever happen to a person. And, as someone who has had more than her fair share of this experience, I have to say I agree wholeheartedly! For me there is nothing sweeter than meeting for the first time that truly special someone or something and knowing you were made to be together! As was the case when I found these…
These are just some of the truly adorable creations by the very talented Claclina at RedBubble. Her sweet and simple style and beautiful character designs combine perfectly to create a sensation of loveliness that is beyond compare! Pretty penguins, gorgeous giraffes, and dreamy dolls are all there waiting to steal your heart away. And I for one am more than happy to have it stolen! What’s more, I dare say you are too :)
Always loving the loveliness, Lovestruck Mascot :)
As the unluckiest of all the KawaiiPunk Mascots I though I would draw you a picture to cheer you up on this, the most unluckiest of days, Friday the 13th. Unfortunately, however, it seems your uncanny knack for misfortune is not limited to your own sweet self! For no sooner had I put pen to paper when… well, have a look for yourself…
It was supposed to be a happy picture of you winning the lottery, but I’m afraid it didn’t exactly turn out as I expected! First of all my pen ran out, so I used a pencil instead. Then the pencil broke, so I decided to colour it in using felt tips. Then my felt tips ran out! It was at this point I started to see a pattern emerging! Choosing to cut my losses I decided I’d better scan the picture, such as it was, and send it to you before any further mishaps occurred. That’s when the coffee got in on the act, hence the photo instead!
Offering you my sincerest apologies, Zachary T Cartwright. Aged 23.
Don’t worry about it Zachary. Things like this seem to follow me around wherever I go! And in a strange way, I’d miss them if they didn’t :)
Alright everybody, listen up and listen up good! You might be used to reading about cotton candy bunny rabbits and ice cream kitty cats at this blog, but today we’re going to have something different. Because today I’m in charge, and they don’t call me the Fierce Mascot for nothing! Today, boys and girls, we’re going to be meeting a couple of action packed adventure seekers that laugh in the face of danger! So stand up straight, pay attention, and don’t make any sudden movements…
OK everyone, at ease! These fine figures go by the names of Hiro and Ono, and are available to buy on t-shirts from the upstanding people at Tactical Urban Gears. And buy them you should, if you know what’s good for you! Because Hiro and Ono are no flower loving fluffikins - oh no! These guys are ninjas in training! Yeah, you heard me, ninjas! Dangerous, deadly, and above all else, decidedly cool! A couple of characters after my very own heart! Fantastic!
I’d like to start this email by apologising for not getting in touch sooner. After my previous correspondences (Re. Kawaiification! and Kawaiification! The Quest Continues!) I promised to keep you informed of my kawaiifying activities - a promise that I have sadly been remiss in. Again, I apologise. Having said that, I now fully intend to live up to that promise and deliver to you, and your wonderful readers, a work of such astounding kawaiification that I consider it to be second to none. And here it is…
Yes, that is what you think it is - a mushroom with a slug on it! Truly breathtaking, isn’t it? I happened upon this remarkable scene in the beautiful foothills of Ben Venue in the Trossachs on a picturesque Scottish afternoon. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a kawaiifiers dream come true and couldn’t wait to get home and draw a little face on the guy! Absolute kawaii perfection, even if I do say so myself! I can assure you I fully intend to keep pursuing my kawaiifying project, and sharing with you the results, but even I have to admit that this is going to be a difficult act to follow!
Yours sincerely, Mr. Justice Smithering Smythe (retired)
Absolutely, utterly, and without a shadow of doubt, stunning! I truly believe that you have reset the bar for kawaiifiers everywhere your honour. If they ever set up a museum of kawaiification, this incredible work must surely take centre stage! Mr. Justice Smithering Smythe (retired), I salute you!
Hello everybody! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while but, what with being the youngest mascot here, I am quite busy with school and homework and all that other boring stuff :) Only joking - I’m way too cool for school :) But enough shenanigans! Today I want to introduce you all to a super cool designer I found while looking for cute characters, and here they are…
This folks is just a sample of some the fantastic kawaii creations from the 2:Spot Studio Zazzle shop. 2:Spot Studio is an Asian design company that specializes in creating cool characters to excite kids aged 12 to 18. Although I’m sure there’ll be many older kids reading this who will be just as excited :) But wait! As well as their Zazzle store, 2:Spot Studio also sell vinyl toys, stationery, t-shirts, keyrings and more at their own stores, so be sure to check out their website for more details!
Always bringing you the cutest characters, Junior Mascot :)
A few months ago, as I’m sure many of you will remember, I posted a piece about Big Eyed Art and Kawaii Kids! (Re. Big Eyed Art and Kawaii Kids!). See? I told you I did! Anyway… in response to this uncharacteristically cultured post, and I say that with all due deference and respect to my fellow Mascots, I was recently contacted by a fellow big eyed connoisseur - and by that I mean a person that appreciates big eyed art, not a person with big eyes! Her name is Rudy Fig and, not only is she a fan of the aforementioned artistic movement, she’s also an extremely talented contemporary exponent of it!
See what I mean? Rudy Fig is a 21 year old artist who, in her own words, and like many a great artist before her, “flunked out of art school in 2006 with flying colors”. A strange boast you may think? But is it? As someone who has always thought of the term “art school” as the ultimate oxymoron I have to say that I not only fully approve of Rudy’s actions, but would recommend them to budding artists everywhere! Not least because it means you don’t have to dress up in a ludicrous graduation gown at the end of term :) Believe me, nobody looks good in those things!
Anyway, what the art school lost in Rudy’s dismissal, the art world gained in Rudy’s work. Her beautiful characters and landscapes drip with magic and enchantment. Doe eyed waifs and fantastical creatures sit side by side in idyllic dreamscapes that simultaneously comfort, delight and intrigue. There’s a very strange yet distinct sense, albeit a wholly inexplicable one, of warm familiarity to the worlds Rudy has created. A sense of having been there before, or even, as unlikely as it sounds, homecoming. For which we have to ask… why? Are these the worlds we all imagined and dreamed of as children? Has Rudy tapped into a subconscious memory we all unknowingly share? Or perhaps, as the Stereo Mascot suggests, have I just been listening to Pebbles Vol. 3 too much!
Whatever the reason Rudy’s artworks resound so strongly, one thing is clear - resound they do! And, I’m more than happy to say, it’s not just me that thinks so! For despite her former art school’s short sighted summation of her talent, Rudy now works as a full time oil painter and custom toy artist. A fairytale ending that seems fittingly apt for her chosen subject matter! If you’d like to see more of Rudy’s work, and I’m sure you all would, then please pay a visit to her Flickr account.
Thank you Rudy for sharing your wonderful work, Cubist Mascot :)
OK readers, time for a treat! And, as Halloween is finally behind us, this treat is going to be all cute! Note cute and creepy! Not cute and scary! Not cute and spooky! Just cute, cute, cute! So get ready to see this blog and yours truly do what we do best! All set? Then lets go! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I give you the fantastic Coolpuk…
Coolpuk is a super cute graphic designer and illustrator from Holland whose unique style and adorable characters have set many a kawaii heart racing. Her work can be seen and enjoyed in everything from magazines to shop fronts and pretty much everything else in between! And luckily for you, and me too, Coolpuk also has a Ninja Zoo shop where you can buy her adorable t-shirts! See? I told you this was going to be cute!
